Historic

Created on January 15, 1973 in Lagos (Nigeria) for the 2nd African Games, the African Handball Confederation (CAHB) is the institution that manages handball in Africa. It is a non-profit apolitical organization. To date, 50 African federations are affiliated to the CAHB. Its headquarters are in Abidjan (Ivory Coast).

 

 

THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE FROM 1973 TO 1978

An Interim Committee set up in a meeting in Tunis (Tunisia) in 1972, was tasked with inviting African countries to participate in the Constitutive General Assembly of the African Handball Confederation scheduled for January 1973 in Lagos, Nigeria. opportunity of the 2nd African Games. Countries present at this first historic meeting were Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Senegal and Cameroon. The Provisional Committee was composed as follows, with headquarters in Dakar (Senegal):

The Constitutive Congress was held in Lagos (Nigeria) on January 15, 1973 in the presence of Mr Alberto SAN ROMAN (Spain), Vice President of the International Handball Federation.

The city of Lagos was chosen to house the headquarters of the organization created to manage handball in Africa.

At the 3rd Congress of Algiers (Algeria) in 1978, the positions of Secretary General and Treasurer were cumulated. The headquarters of the African Handball Confederation was moved to Abidjan (Ivory Coast).

THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE FROM 1986 TO 1993

The 6th Congress of Saly Portudal (Senegal) in 1986 as a prelude to the Congress of 40 years of the International Handball Federation led to a reshuffle of the Executive Committee.

It was after the 9th Congress in 1993 in Cairo (Egypt) that President Babacar FALL died and was replaced by Dr. Nabil Salem (EGYPT) to act as interim representative until the next congress.

THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE FROM 1993 TO 1996

Following the death of President Babacar FALL in 1993, the 1st Vice-President, Dr Nabil SALEM is acting until the 10th Election Congress in February 1995 in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). At this congress, the delegates decide to separate the post Secretary General to the post of Treasurer. Also in order to preserve the cohesion within African handball until the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996, another position of Deputy President in charge of Administration and Finance was created and Dr. Nabil SALEM remained as President of 1995 to 1996.
