The semi-final France vs Egypt was played during this morning at 8.00 UTC at Yoyogi National Stadium of Japan. After a first time neck and neck (13:13), Egypt finally bowed under the power of the French team. At the final whistle, France won the game 27:23.

The Pharaohs are out of the final but they deserve to be congratulated for their performance in this competition and the way they handled the best teams in the world. They can be proud of themselves. Egypt improved their winning percentage in the competition by almost 50%, having secured five wins at Tokyo 2020, whereas in the past six tournaments they won only nine games. In fact, Egypt won as many games at Tokyo 2020 as they did at Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and Rio 2016 combined.

« I feel like this team is so much more than reaching the semi-final once. We have too much and for too long been outside the top but we are back and I’m sure this is not the last time you will see us in the semi-final. This is what we deserve, this is our level, this is not only luck or a part of our team that we’re boosting. I feel that this will be our level for the next years.

« We have a lot of young players who still will show much more and I’m sure that this is just the start for our team, we have just been developing for two-three years and we have much more to give.

« We are so much bigger than just being a national team. We’re friends outside and I really love them (his teammates) so much. » Yahia Omar, Egyptian right back, interviewed by ihf.info.

Saturday at 8.00 UTC, Egypt will face Spain for their first medal at the Olympic Games. The Final will be played between France and Denmark at 12.00 UTC.

On the side of the Ladies, Final will be played between France and Norway, on Sunday at 6 am UTC.
