With 15 days to go before the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Qualifying Tournament, the four participants (Ladies) in the race are preparing for an epic competition. The countries in the running are:

6 participations to Olympic Games (1st participation in 1996),

14 participations to World Championship (1st participation in 1990),

8 participations to African Games (1st participation in 1991): 7 gold medals and one bronze medal in 2003,

20 participations to African Championship (1st participation in 1981): 13 gold medals,

Defending African Champion

 

Senegal

Silver medallist at the 1974 and 2018 African Championships,

Bronze medalist at the 2015 African Games,

First participation to World Championship in 2019

(no participation to Olympic Games)

 

Democratic Republic of Congo

Two participations to World Championship (1st participation in 2013),

Bronze medallist at the 2019 African Games,

10 participations to African Championship (1st participation in 1992) with 2 bronze medals and one silver medal

(no participation to Olympic Games)

 

Cameroon

Two participations to World Championship (1st participation in 2005),

African Games: one gold medal, 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals,

14 participations to African Championship (1st participation in 1979) with 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals

(no participation to Olympic Games)

 

This is a very challenging game, as the others will have to oust the reigning African champion Angola, in order to get the only one qualifying ticket.

The competition will take place from 26 to 29 September 2019 in Dakar, Senegal, at the Dakar Arena sports center.
