The different pools of the Senior Women’s World Championship, Japan 2019 are now known.
The draw for the Women’s World Handball Championship, which will take place in Japan from 30 November to 15 December, took place on Friday morning in Tokyo. The three African countries represented are Angola, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo, distributed respectively in groups A, C and D. For Senegal and DR Congo, it is a brand new challenge with this first participation in the World Cup.
For Frédéric Bougeant, the general manager of the Senegalese lionesses, “It’s a rather complicated draw on paper. We are with big nations that are used to going to the end of competitions generally. Perhaps Spain is less solid as they have started a renewal of their team to prepare for the world championships at home in 2021”. Indeed, Senegal found itself in a very difficult group with Spain, Romania and Hungary. Countries that have often played the leading roles in this competition.
This is also the case for DR Congo, which will share Group D with Sweden, ranked 4th in the world, Russia, Japan, China and Argentina.
Angola, African Champion, is ranked in the same group as Norway, 2nd in the world ranking and the Netherlands, 3rd in the world ranking.
