FEMAHAND: COM and AS POLICE crowned CHAMPIONS 2021-2022 at the National Handball Championship

The 2021-2022 edition of the National Handball Championship had its conclusion on Thursday, August 18 with the coronation of the Missabougou Omnisports Center (COM) in the Women’s category and the AS Police in the Men’s category.

A total of 18 teams including 12 for Men and 6 for Women participated in this competition.

The six women’s teams competed in a single pool and all the teams competed in a mini one-way championship. At the end of the debates, the Missabougou Sports Center was on the highest step of the podium with five victories in as many games. As a result, the ladies of Missabougou became Champions of Mali.

Among the men, the 12 teams were divided into two pools of six teams. Pool A was composed of USFAS, the Centre Omnisports de Lafiabougou (COL), Sonni de Gao, Debo Club de Mopti, Mamahira de Kati and Sigui de Kayes. Pool B was made up of Biton of Segou, AS Police, Al Farouk of Timbuktu, the Centre Omnisports of Missabougou, AS Commune II and AS Mandé.

The two first of each group qualified for the semi-finals. Thus, the first of the group A, USFAS faced the second of the group B, COM in the first semi-final while the first of the group B, AS Police faced the second of the group A, COL in the second semi-final.

USFAS and AS Police qualified for the final of the national championship by beating respectively COM (33-18) and COL (29-26).
The final which took place on Thursday, August 18 in the Abdallah Mahamane Haïdara basketball hall of the 26 Mars stadium of Yirimadio was chaired by the Minister of Youth and Sports in charge of civic education and citizen construction, Mossa Ag Attaher. Several personalities were present including the president of the CNOS, Habib Sissoko and the president of the Malian Handball Federation, Commissioner-Colonel Cheick Mohamed Cherif Tounkara.

This final turned to the advantage of the AS Police who won in the shootout 4-2 after 34-34 after extra time.
